VOLUNTEERS

As a volunteer operated organization, HS United relies on our families to assist in club activities.

This year each family is asked to commit one (1) hour per player (Families with three or more players are asked to commit to three (3) hours during the 2013 spring/summer season as a volunteer in support of the club.

Volunteer positions do not require soccer knowledge but volunteers must be at least 12 years old to participate alone.

Below are some of the available volunteer opportunities

2013 Volunteer Position Descriptions:


Team Co-Coach

If you like to instruct and encourage people, this job is for you! This volunteer position affords you the opportunity to help young people discover the fun, companionship, and excitement of a team sport. HSU will give you the training you need, along with the training plans, to help you develop your players’ soccer skills.

It is our goal to have 2 coaches for each team as we believe it allow for more individualized attention for our players

We do not have head coaches and assistant coaches. All of our coaches are considered co-coaches as we have found this allows for them to focus on the players rather than a coaching hierarchy

No experience is necessary. We do provide training for our coaches. This training is designed to accommodate “newbies” as well as experienced coaches.

In addition, our coaches receive detailed information and training plans to assist them throughout the season.

Each age division has a team of coach commissioners who are available throughout the season to answer questions or help with any issues.

Each team will have an assigned "team parent" who will handle all of the details communication and paperwork for the team so that our coaches can focus on what they do best!

Time commitment

  • Training course (3 hours)
  • Division meeting (1.5-2 hours)
  • Coaching (1.5 hours 2x’s a week May through July)

All HSU coaches are required to:

  • Complete a background check prior to coaching.
  • Attend a training course if they do not possess a Y1 level certificate or higher
  • Attend a Division coaches meeting prior to the start of the season
  • Adhere to the 2013 HS United Coaches Code of Conduct

Team Parent(s)
U4-U12 In-House Teams

If you like to organize and inform, you’ll prove invaluable to the lucky team that gets you as Team Parent.
This is the position that allows, actually encourages, you to be “controlling”! Collecting information and then organizing it and distributing it back to a group of appreciative parents and an incredibly grateful coaches, is your mission – should you choose to accept it!

Each team will have an assigned team parent who will handle all of the details, communication and paperwork for the team so that our coaches can focus on what they do best!

No soccer experience or knowledge is necessary.

This position can be shared by two parents if you want to “buddy up”!

Team Parents will handle the communication and administrative tasks for the team including:

  • Help the coaches conduct the team meeting the first night of practice
  • Maintain team information binder
  • Set up snack schedule
  • Help communicate club news and events to team families
  • Pick up and hand out team uniforms, trophies and photos
  • Provide any feedback, suggestions or concerns from parents to the coaches and or club

Time commitment

  • Attend Team manager meeting in April (1.5-2 hours)
  • Attend team training and games (2 nights a week May through July)

All HSU Team Managers are required to:

  • Complete a background check prior to the season.
  • Adhere to the 2012 HS United Volunteer Code of Conduct

Team Parent(s)
U14-U19 Teams and U8 -U10 Enhanced Rec Teams

This is the position that allows, actually encourages, you to be “controlling”! Collecting information about each player, each game, every tournament, and then organizing it and distributing it back to a group of appreciative parents and an incredibly grateful coach, is your mission – should you choose to accept it!

Each team will have an assigned team manager who will handle all of the details, communication and paperwork for the team so that our coaches can focus on what they do best!

No soccer experience or knowledge is necessary.

This position can be shared by two parents if you want to “buddy up”!

Team Parents will handle the communication and administrative tasks for the team including:

  • Help the coaches conduct the team meeting the first night of practice
  • Maintain team information binder
  • Attend games and ensure necessary information is available at each game
  • Help communicate club news and events to team families
  • Help coach in preparing for June tournament
  • Pick up and hand out team uniforms, trophies and photos
  • Provide any feedback, suggestions or concerns from parents to the coaches and or club

Time commitment

  • Attend Team manager meeting in April (1.5-2 hours)
  • Attend team games (1 night a week May through July)

All HSU Team Parents are required to:

  • Complete a background check prior to the season.
  • Adhere to the 2013 HS United Volunteer Code of Conduct

Committee Member

We are always looking for committee members!

Committees include: Soccerfest, Sponsorship/Marketing, Coaches, Referee, Volunteer

Concession Stand

A quick, easy and FUN way to complete your volunteer hours! Our concession stand shifts require two people, so sign up with a friend.

Shifts are 1 hour.



HSU Soccerfest(s)!

This is our year end celebration.

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer at these events, including:

  • Planning committee (meet monthly February-May, twice in June and July)
  • Set-Up Crew (2 hours)
  • Clean-Up Crew (1 hour)
  • Concessions (2 hours)
  • Face Painting (1 or 2 hours)
  • Supervise Water Ball (1 or 2 hours)
  • Supervise Dunk Tank (1 or 2 hours)
  • Carnival Games (1 or 2 hours)

Referee Mentor

HSU is working to develop a referee mentoring program. To make this happen we are looking for individuals who can spend 1-2 nights per month helping mentor our youth referees.

HSU referee mentors are required to:

  • Have at least 4 years of referee experience
  • Be at least a USSF level 8 referee
  • Understand the rules which govern the referees
  • Complete a background check prior to the season
  • Be willing to pass along the experience you have gained to younger referees
  • Adhere to the 2013 HS United Volunteer Code of Conduct
